单词 𐍄𐌹𐌻
释义

𐍄𐌹𐌻

Gothic

Etymology

Occurring only once in the accusative, the exact form and context of this word are not sufficient to determine its part of speech and etymology. There are two options:

  • Either it is an a-stem neuter (corresponding to Proto-Germanic *tilą) or masculine (*tilaz) noun; compare also the Kovel spearhead inscription and perhaps German Ziel,
  • Or it is the (here substantivized) accusative strong neuter form of the a-stem adjective *𐍄𐌹𐌻𐍃 (*tils) (corresponding to *tilaz) which is found also in 𐌲𐌰𐍄𐌹𐌻𐍃 (gatils).

Following Lehmann, the first option is here taken as a lemma.
