Compare Old Chinese 牿 (OC *kuːɡ) or Middle Chinese 牿 (MC kuok̚). Cognate with Lao ຄຸກ (khuk), Tai Dam ꪅꪴꪀ, Khmer គុក (kuk). Possibly doublet of คอก (kɔ̂ɔk).
