From Ottoman Turkish چكنمك (çekinmek, “to pull, to draw on to one's self, to draw back and recoil through fear, scruple or dislike”)[1], from Ottoman Turkish چكمك (çekmek, “to pull, to draw, to attract”), from Proto-Turkic *ček- (“to drive towards oneself”)[2], morphologically çek- + -in- + -ti.
