Etymology

pumpkin + -ification: a calque of the Ancient Greek ἀποκολοκύντωσις (apokolokúntōsis) via the Latin apocolocyntosis. From the title of the work Apocolocyntosis (divi) Claudii, a satire on the deification of Claudius.
