逆接 (hiragana ぎゃくせつ, rōmaji gyakusetsu)

1. (grammar) adversative, contrastive; a particle or conjunction that joins two phrases and indicates that their meanings contrast or differ from one another or from expectation
   • 1991, Michio Ōnishi, Tansakubun no jugyō [Short-essay instruction], page 108:

     記述 (きじゅつ)量 (りょう)がふえてきている。逆接 (ぎゃくせつ)と順接 (じゅんせつ)の接続 (せつぞく)助詞 (じょし)の使用 (しよう)が目 (め)立 (だ)つ。

     Kijutsu ryō ga fuetekiteiru. Gyakusetsu to junsetsu no setsuzoku joshi no shiyō ga medatsu.

     There is increasing description. The use of contrastive and resultative particles is noteable.
