From Proto-Southwestern Tai *ɡraːnᶜ (“lazy”), from Old Chinese 懶 (OC *raːnʔ, “lazy”).[1] Cognate with Lao ຄ້ານ (khān), Lü ᦆᦱᧃᧉ (xaan²), Shan ၶၢၼ်ႉ (khâ̰an).
