From Old Marathi 𑘪𑘱𑘎𑘜𑘹 (vikaṇe) (compare 𑘪𑘿𑘨𑘱𑘎𑘜𑘹 (vrikaṇe)), from Sanskrit विक्रीयते (vikrīyate). Cognate with Hindi बिकना (biknā), Assamese বিকা (bika).
