Inherited from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀧𑀼𑀟𑀬 (puḍaya) (with Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀓- (-ka-)), from Sanskrit पुट (puṭa), पुटक (puṭaka). Doublet of पूट (pūṭ). Cognate with Hindustani پُڑَا / पुड़ा (puṛā), Sindhi پُڙو / पुड़ो, Punjabi ਪੁੜਾ (puṛā) / پُڑا (puṛā), Sinhalese පුළ (puḷa).
