Probably of Romano-British (Latin) origin, such as Old English ea (river) Lōn, a phonetic adaption of Latin Ialonus, a local Celtic god (and thus from Proto-Celtic *yalom (clearing)). Or, possibly from lune, referring to the river's shape.
