From Proto-Iranian *dwar- (compare Avestan 𐬛𐬎𐬎𐬀𐬭𐬆𐬨‎ (duuar^əm)), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *dʰwar- (compare Sanskrit द्वार् (dvā́r)), from Proto-Indo-European *dʰwer- (“gate, door”) (compare Latin foris, Ancient Greek θύρα (thúra) and Old English duru and dor (English door)).
