Etymology

Compound of particle な (na, attributive form(連体形) of auxiliary verb だ (da) or copula particle used after the adjective verbs(形容動詞)), の (no, particle to nominalize) and です (desu, auxiliary verb of polite assertion).

1. (polite) Polite form of なのだ (na no da, used to indicate strong assertion).

   それが重要(じゅうよう)なのです。

   Sore ga jūyō na no desu.

   That is the important thing.
