Etymology

This aorist's stem is a syncope ἐλθ- (elth-) of weak stem ἐλυθ- (eluth-) of unused verb *ἐλεύθω (*eleúthō) as in Epic ἐλῠθεῖν (elutheîn), from Proto-Indo-European *h₁ludʰét (to arrive).[1] Discussion of stems at ἔρχομαι Notes.
