From ἐπιτηδές (epitēdés, “for this purpose”) + -ιος (-ios, adjective suffix). ἐπιτηδές is from ἐπι- (epi-, “for”) + τήδε (tḗde, “this”), variant of ἥδε (hḗde), feminine of ὅδε (hóde), with the suffix -ές (-és), adverbial neuter accusative singular of -ής (-ḗs, adjective suffix).
