Etymology 1
From Sanskrit दुग्धिका (dugdhikā) (not attested outside of lexicographer's lists), from दुग्ध (dugdha, “milk”) + -इका (-ikā).[1] Cognate with Marathi दुध्या (dudhyā).
Note the similarly-shaped words for "gourd" in Western Asia, documented at Old Armenian դդում (ddum).
