From Proto-Indo-Aryan *ṭhokk-. Cognate with Gujarati ઠોકવું (ṭhokvũ), Hindi ठोकना (ṭhoknā), Sindhi ٺوڪَڻُ / ठोकणु, Punjabi ਠੋਕਣਾ (ṭhokṇā), Oriya ଠୁକିବା (ṭhukiba), Bengali ঠোকা (ṭhoka) / ঠুকা (ṭhuka).
