Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘎𑘻𑘎𑘜𑘰 (kokaṇā), 𑘎𑘻𑘽𑘎𑘜𑘰 (koṁkaṇā), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀓𑁄𑀁𑀓𑀡 (koṃkaṇa), from Sanskrit कोङ्कण (koṅkaṇa). Compare Gujarati કોંકણ (koṅkaṇ), Hindi कोंकण (koṅkaṇ).
