From the root ܢ-ܓ-ܠ‎ (n-ɡ-l). Compare Hebrew מַגָּל‎ (maggāl), Arabic مِنْجَل‎ (minjal) (according to Fraenkel perhaps borrowed from Aramaic), Assyrian Neo-Aramaic ܡܲܓܠܵܐ‎ (māgyla), as well as Persian منگال‎ (mangâl), Zoroastrian Dari mangāl, Semitic loanwords.
