Inherited from Old Punjabi ਸਨੇਹਾ (sanehā), from Prakrit 𑀲𑀁𑀤𑁂𑀲 / संदेस / ಸಂದೇಸ (saṃdesa) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀓- (-ka-), from Sanskrit संदेश (saṃdeśa). Doublet of سَنْدیْش‎ (sandeś) and سَنْدیسا‎ (sandesā). Compare Pahari-Potwari سنہا‎ (sanhā) and Sindhi سنيهو‎ (saneho).
