אֹפִר • (ofír) m

1. (biblical) the eleventh son of Joktan
   • Genesis 10:29, with translation of the Jewish Publication Society:

     ‏וְאֶת־אוֹפִר וְאֶת־חֲוִילָה וְאֶת־יוֹבָב כָּל־אֵלֶּה בְּנֵי יָקְטָן׃‎‎

     v-et Ofír v-et Ḥavilá v-et Yováv; kol éleh b'nei Yoqtán.

     and Ophir, and Havilah, and Jobab; all these were the sons of Joktan.

2. Ophir (a biblical port, known for its gold production)
   • 1 Kings 10:11, with translation of the Jewish Publication Society:

     ‏וְגַם אֳנִי חִירָם אֲשֶׁר־נָשָׂא זָהָב מֵאוֹפִיר הֵבִיא מֵאֹפִיר עֲצֵי אַלְמֻגִּים הַרְבֵּה מְאֹד וְאֶבֶן יְקָרָה׃‎‎

     V-gam oní Ḥirám ashér nasá zaháv me-Ofír heví me-Ofír ʿatséi almugím harbé m'ód v-éven y'qará.

     And the navy also of Hiram, that brought gold from Ophir, brought in from Ophir great plenty of sandal-wood and precious stones.

     ‏אוֹקִ֥יר אֱנ֖וֹשׁ מִפָּ֑ז וְאָדָ֖ם מִכֶּ֥תֶם אוֹפִֽיר׃‎‎

     Oqír enósh mip-paz v-adám mi-kétem Ofír.

     I will make man more rare than fine gold, Even man than the pure gold of Ophir.
