barchessa f (plural barchesse)barcòn or barco is a rural service building, typical of the architecture of the Venetian villa, designed to contain work environments, dividing the space of the central body of the villa, reserved for the owners, by that of the peasants. Normally the barchessas were characterized by a porticoed structure with high round arches and used for services: from kitchens, to farmers' homes, to stables and to rustic outbuildings (farm shed, stock for food supplies and more). Barchessas almost always arranged in a wing of the main house (the mansion) of the villa.
