From Proto-Hellenic *koňňós, from Proto-Indo-European *ḱomyós, from *ḱóm (with) + *-yós (adjectival suffix), the ancestor of the suffix -ιος (-ios). Cognates include Latin cum, Gaulish com-, and Old English ge-.
