θύον
Ancient Greek
Etymology
It has been suggested that it is a primary derivative of θύω (thúō, “to smoke”). It is clearly connected to θυία (thuía, “stinking juniper”); however, the relation of these forms is not clear. It does not seem very probable that two distinct trees had nearly identical names.
