From Proto-Indo-European *dhl̥h1-rós, whence possibly also Sanskrit धीर (dhīra, “steady, brave, energetic, resolute”), from Proto-Indo-European *dʰelh₁- (“to bloom”), the root of θάλλω (thállō).
