Cognate with Mycenaean Greek 𐀆𐀕𐀃𐀳 (de-me-o-te), from Proto-Hellenic [Term?]. Per Beekes, ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *dem-h₁-, an extension of the root *dem- (“to build”).
