夹(夾、Ⅰ 挟） [jiā] 动

1. ■ （从两个相对的方面加压力， 使物体固定不动） press from both sides:

用筷子夹菜 pick up food with chopsticks;

用钳子把烧红的铁夹住 grip a piece of red-hot iron with a pair of tongs;

敌军夹着尾巴逃跑了。 The enemy troops ran away with their tails between their legs.

我的手指头被门夹了一下。 My fingers got squeezed in the door.

鞋子夹脚。 The shoe pinches.

2. ■ （放在两者之间; 从两旁限制住） place in between:

把枫叶夹在书里。 Put the maple leaves in between the pages.

他把孙子夹在双膝当中。 He nipped his grandson between his knees.

他夹在我们两人中间。 He was sandwiched between the two of us.

3. ■ （用胳膊夹住） carry sth. under one's arm:

夹着皮包 carry a briefcase under one's arm;

这名学生腋下夹着一本英语词典走来。 The student came along with an English dictionary under his arm.

4. ■ （夹杂; 搀杂） mix; mingle; intersperse:

夹叙夹议 narration interspersed with comments;

夹在人群里 mingle with the crowd;

狂风夹着暴雨 a violent wind accompanied by a torrential rain
