ulied
Maltese
Alternative forms
- wlied (after a vowel)
Etymology
From Arabic أَوْلاد (ʾawlād), plural of وَلَد (walad), whence Maltese wild (“progeny”), of which ulied does not anymore function as a plural, however.
Pronunciation
- IPA(key): /ʊˈlɪːt/
Noun
ulied
- one's children; offspring
- plural of iben (“son”)
- plural of bint (“daughter”)
Usage notes
- In order to specify sex in the plural, the appositions subien (“boys”) and bniet (“girls”) are used; see these.
