From Proto-Sino-Tibetan *tjak ~ g-t(j)ik (“water; liquid; body fluid”), with the coda -k dropped.Cognate with Lhao Vo da, Burmese တစ် (tac), Sichuan Yi ꋍ (cyp), Old Chinese 隻 (OC *tjaːɡ) and Tibetan གཅིག (gcig, “one”).
