Etymology

Formed as: tachy- + -on, representing a hypothetical Ancient Greek etymon of the form *ταχυόν (takhuón, a quick thing), from ταχύς (takhús, swift”, “rapid).

Coined by American physicist Gerald Feinberg in 1967.
