  1. (US, dialect, dated) A kind of large, coarse, short trousers formerly worn.
    • 1845, Judd, Sylvester, Margaret: A Tale of the Real and Ideal, Blight and Bloom, page 22:
      The lad's skilts, through which were thrust his lean dry shanks, gave him a semblance to a peasant of Gascony on stilts.
