Etymology

Possibly from Proto-Indo-European *kénḱ-u-s ~ *kn̥ḱ-éw-s, from *kenḱ- +‎ *-us. Perhaps cognate with Ancient Greek κακός (kakós, “had, awful, worthless”), Lithuanian keñkti (“to ache”), Proto-Germanic *hungruz (“hunger”).[1]
