From Proto-Indo-European *ln̥dʰ-éh₂[1], from *léndʰ-s ~ *ln̥dʰ-és, from *lendʰ- (“land, heath”).[2] Cognate with Proto-Germanic *lundaz (“grove”) (whence Old Norse lundr), Proto-Germanic *landą (“land”).
