Etymology
From Old Spanish huésped, from Latin hospitem, accusative singular of hospes, from Proto-Italic *hostipotis, an old compound of hostis and the root of potis, possibly corresponding to a Proto-Indo-European root *gʰost(i)potis, a compound of *gʰóstis and *pótis. Doublet of host. See also hueste.
