güveç
Turkish
Etymology
From Ottoman Turkish كوكج (güvec, güğec, “a flat, shallow earthenware cooking pot”)[1][2], either from Proto-Turkic *küdeč (earthenware cooking pot)[3], derived from Proto-Turkic *küd- (to wait)[4] with the suffix *-gač[5] or from Proto-Turkic *kübeč (frying pan, earthenware pot)[6], derived from Proto-Altaic *gi̯ūbe (to smoke, to roast)[7]. Cognates with Azerbaijani güvəc, Kazakh гивеч (giveç), Southern Altai кӧӧш (kööš, “pot”), Turkmen göweç.
