Usage notes
The spelling Geschoß was deprecated in 1996 in the German spelling reform of 1996 (the Rechtschreibreform). However, it remains in use in Austria because the word is pronounced with a long vowel in Austrian German (as opposed to Standard German, where it is pronounced with a short vowel).
