Etymology
Aquilina derives it from Italian garrulo (“garrulous”), from Latin garrulus, which is very plausible, at least as long as no Arabic or Berber connection can be identified.
Pronunciation
- IPA(key): /ˈɡɛr.wɛl/
Verb
gerwel (imperfect jgerwel, verbal noun gerwil)
- to babble, chatter
- Synonym: lablab
Conjugation
- In those forms where the -w- comes to stand between -r- and -l-, it becomes silent; thus e.g. gerwlu /ˈɡɛr.lu/.
