German
Etymology
From Middle High German gehœre f, from Old High German *gihōra f (attested as acc. sg. kehorun); equivalent to ge- + hören. Compare Dutch gehoor. An originally more common formation was Middle High German gehœrde f, n, from Old High German gihōrida f. The latter is cognate with Old Dutch *gehōrtha (attested as gehortoir, scribal error for dat. sg. gehorton), Old Saxon gihōritha.
