Attested in 1637 by Frang Bardhi; in 1688 as Dodagni in the map of venetian cartographer Francesco Maria Coronelli. Misspelled by Cantelli with B as Bodagni.[1][2][3] Albanian patronymic and toponymic name meaning “descendant/inhabitant of Dodë”. Nominal suffix -aj denoting tribal/family name patronyms and toponyms; Dodë (Dodë) + -aj (-s; he; of/to the/him/his).
