Etymology

From Latin Chersonēsus, from Ancient Greek χερσόνησος (khersónēsos, originally, the Gallipoli peninsula; later, any peninsula),[1] from χέρσος (khérsos, dry land) + νῆσος (nêsos, island).[2]
