From Old Galician and Old Portuguese acordar, from Vulgar Latin *accordō. Sense of "to wake up" was possibly influenced by cordo (judicious, prudent), from Latin cordatus (wise, prudent).

From Old Portuguese acordar, from Vulgar Latin *accordō. Sense of "to wake up" was possibly influenced by Latin cordatus (wise, prudent)[1], which would yield *cordado if inherited.
