Etymology 1
From Old Irish buidech (“well-disposed, pleased, satisfied, sated, grateful, thankful”, adjective), from buide f (“good-will, favour, gratification, gratitude, thanks”) + -ech. Cognate with Scottish Gaelic buidheach and Manx booiagh.
