From local Late Latin villa Brandilani, from an improper genitive form of the personal name Brandila,[1] from a Suevic and Gothic personal name, from Proto-Germanic *Brandilô,[2] from *brandaz (flame; sword) and the diminutive personal suffix *-ilan-.[3]
