起 [qi] 动

1. ■ （用在动词后，表示动词的趋向）:

举起旗子 hold high the flag; raise the flag;

拿起武器 take up arms;

引起注意 draw one's attention;

他也抽起烟了! He too has started smoking!

2. ■ （用在动词后， 常跟“不”、“得”连用， 表示力量够得上或够不上）:

经得起时间的考验 can stand the test of time;

买不起 can't afford it
