Possibly a Basque pronunciation of Vulgar Latin *abonnis, of Germanic origin, from Frankish *obbunni, from *ob- (“above, over”) + *bunni, from Proto-Germanic *bi + *bundiją (“bundle”), from Proto-Indo-European *bʰendʰ- (“to tie”).
