Borrowed from German Blamage, from French blâmer, from Old French blasmer, from Vulgar Latin *blastēmāre, present active infinitive of *blastēmō, from Ecclesiastical Latin blasphēmō, from Ancient Greek βλασφημέω (blasphēméō). First attested in 1866.[1][2]
