Usage notes
Whether the clef is called an alto clef or tenor clef depends on what line of the staff runs through the middle of the clef sign. If the middle line runs through the middle of the clef sign, then it is an alto clef. If the line above the middle line runs through the middle of the clef sign, then it is a tenor clef. The clef is a C clef regardless of its position on the staff.
