From Proto-Turkic *od-gur- (“to wake”), causative of the unattested stem *od-. Cognate with Old Uyghur [script needed] (odɣur-, “to wake (tr.)”), Karakhanid [script needed] (oδɣur-, “to wake (tr.)”), Khakas усхурарға (usxurarğa, “to wake (tr.)”), Turkish uyar- (“to warn, alert”). From the same root see; Turkish uyan- (“to wake up (intr.)”), Old Uyghur [script needed] (odon-, “to wake up (intr.)”), Karakhanid [script needed] (oδuɣ, “awake”).
