From Proto-Iranian *Wárkānah (compare Old Persian 𐎺𐎼𐎣𐎠𐎴 (v-r-k-a-n /Varkāna/), from whence the borrowing Ancient Greek Ὑρκᾱνίᾱ (Hurkāníā)), from *wŕ̥kah.

Equivalent to 𐬬𐬆𐬵𐬭𐬐𐬀‎ (vəhrka, “wolf”) + suffix.
