Possibly from Middle Persian 𐭩𐭥𐭣𐭲𐭠𐭬𐭫𐭰 (yʿdtʾmlc), which was made from 𐭩𐭥𐭣𐭲𐭠 (yʿdtʾ, “separate”) + 𐭬𐭫𐭰 (mlc, “border”), see Proto-Indo-Iranian *yaw- and Persian مرز for more details.
