单词 𐌷𐌻𐌴𐌹𐌳𐌿𐌼𐌰
ι‡ŠδΉ‰

𐌷𐌻𐌴𐌹𐌳𐌿𐌼𐌰

Gothic

Etymology

Contains the comparative suffix -𐌿𐌼𐌰 (-uma). The root is ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *αΈ±ley- (β€œto lean, incline”), with a sense of "crooked, slack". Compare Old Irish clΓ© (β€œleft”) and Latin clΔ«vius (β€œinauspicious”) from the same root. The origin of the 𐌳 (d) is unclear, but Lehmann (1986) suggests derivation from a formation similar to Proto-Germanic *hlΔ«dō (β€œslope”).

Pronunciation

  • IPA(key): /ˈhliː.du.ma/, [ˈhliː.Γ°u.ma]

Declension

The accusative plural neuter form is attested as πŒ·πŒ»πŒ΄πŒΉπŒ³πŒΏπŒΌπ‰πŒ½πŒ½πŒ° (hleidumōnna) in Codex Ambrosianus A, apparently a misspelling; Codex Ambrosianus B has the expected πŒ·πŒ»πŒ΄πŒΉπŒ³πŒΏπŒΌπ‰πŒ½πŒ° (hleidumōna).
