Etymology

First attested in the Worin seokbo (月印釋譜 / 월인석보), 1459, as Middle Korean 흔ᄒᆞ다〮 (Yale: hùn-hòtá), which Alexander Vovin speculates is a (perhaps Mandarin-influenced) nativisation of the Sino-Korean term 흔하다 (很—, heunhada, “to be exceeding”).[1]

Equivalent to (heun) + 하다 (-hada, to do, light verb deriving adjectives).
